WAMPO 2026 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) Amendment 1 Public Comment Period The Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WAMPO) has opened the public comment period for Amendment 1 to the 2026 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP), September 30, 2026, through October 14, 2026. Public comments received during this period will be reported to and considered by the WAMPO Transportation Policy Body (TPB), which will decide whether to approve 2026 UPWP Amendment 1 at their November 10, 2026, meeting. The Unified Planning Work Program is WAMPO's primary budgeting document for planning activities during the year (January 1-December 31). Funding for the UPWP comes from various sources, including federal Consolidated Planning Grant (CPG) funds, which require a 20% local match (i.e., 80% federal funding, 20% local funding). The CPG/local-match expenditures in the draft 2026 UPWP Amendment 1 total $1,711,000. Proposed 2026 UPWP Amendment 1 changes include, among other things: Funding adjustments between staff tasks to better align with planned work this year. Decreasing the budgeted amount for operating expenses in 2026. Adjusted programmed amounts shown for CPG and Transportation Alternatives (TA) funds used for the consultant-supported project "Safe Routes to School Plan Development" to better align with the total project amount through December 2026. No change in total project cost across all project years. Decreasing funding programmed in 2026 for the multi-year, consultant-supported projects "Regional Active Transportation Plan" and "Household Travel Surveys," to better align with anticipated work schedules. These projects will continue beyond the end of 2026, and their overall planned funding across all project years remains unchanged. Draft 2026 Unified Planning Work Program Amendment 1 and information about the public comment period are available on the WAMPO website: www.wampo.org/upwp. Paper copies of draft 2026 UPWP Amendment 1 may also be viewed at the WAMPO offices, 271 W 3rd St., Suite 208, Wichita, KS 67202. Please submit comments, questions, and concerns to wampo@wampo.org. WAMPO fully complies with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and related statutes and regulations in all programs and activities.
