NOTICE OF INTENT TO CLOSE SCHOOL BUILDING To the Electors of Unified School District No. 259. Sedgwick County, Kansas (Wichita): You are hereby notified that the Board of Education (the "Board"), of Unified School District No. 259, Sedgwick County, Kansas (Wichita) (the "District"), proposes to close the current Chester I. Lewis Alternative Education Academy building located at 1847 N. Chautauqua Street (the "Building") in order to improve the District's school system. Continued use of the more-than 75-year-old Building is no longer prudent due to the deterioration of the Building's foundation and structure. Students affected by the closure will attend class at the former Cleaveland Elementary building located at 3345 West 33rd Street. The Board will hold a public hearing on January 12, 2026, at 6:00 PM, in the Alvin Morris Administrative Center at 903 South Edgemoor Street, Room 813, Wichita, Kansas 67218, where it will hear testimony as to the advisability of the proposed closing.
