NOTICE OF HANFORD 60-DAY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD AND MEETING
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and contractor Bechtel National Inc. are holding a 60-day public comment period and meeting on a proposed Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Class 3 permit modification to the Hanford Dangerous Waste Permit. The requested modification supports DOE's dual path, glass plus grout strategy — a science-backed approach that pairs vitrification and proven grouting solutions.
The comment period runs Aug. 10 - Oct. 9, 2026. A hybrid public meeting will be held Aug. 26, at 5:30 p.m. PT, in the Richland Public Library, 955 Northgate Drive, Richland, WA 99352. Join virtually at https://bit.ly/4wFsfGY or call 833-633-0875 (toll-free), Conference ID: 515 294 054#.
The proposed permit modification will be available online during the public comment period on the Hanford events calendar at https://bit.ly/4oIUbHb, Hanford Administrative Record at https://bit.ly/3Te26R9, and at the Hanford Public Information Repositories listed at https://bit.ly/3X1jc36. The permittee's compliance history during the life of the permit being modified is available from the Ecology contact person.
