NOTICE OF HANFORD 60-DAY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD AND MEETING
The U.S. Department of Energy is holding a 60-day public comment period and meeting on a proposed Class 3 permit modification to the Hanford Dangerous Waste Permit. If approved, the modification would allow additional cesium removal process modules, called the Advanced Modular Pretreatment System (AMPS), to be added to the permit for the Low-Activity Waste Pretreatment System Operating Unit Group. Additional modules are needed to ensure the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant can operate continuously. AMPS will complement the existing Tank-Side Cesium Removal System and increase processing capacity.
The comment period runs Aug. 14 - Oct. 13, 2026. A hybrid public meeting will be held Sept. 2, at 5:30 p.m. PT, in the Gallery Room of the Richland Public Library, 955 Northgate Drive, Richland, WA 99352. Join virtually at https://bit.ly/4ezb3eU or call 833-633-0875 (toll-free), Conference ID: 989 822 182#.
The proposed permit modification and supporting documentation will be available online during the public comment period on the Hanford events calendar at https://bit.ly/4oIUbHb, Hanford Administrative Record at https://bit.ly/44pYFZX, and at the Hanford Public Information Repositories listed at https://bit.ly/3X1jc36.
