NOTICE OF RECORD OF DECISION AMENDMENT FOR THE HANFORD 300 AREA SUPERFUND SITE 300-FF-2 OPERABLE UNIT
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with the Washington State Department of Ecology in concurrence, have finalized an amended record of decision for the Hanford 300 Area Superfund Site 300 FF 2 Operable Unit on June 17, 2026. This amendment is conducted in accordance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act and follows a proposed plan that presents revised remedial action alternatives to address contaminated soil known as the 300-296 Waste Site below Hanford's 324 Building.
The selected option consists of remediation of the waste site following demolition of the 324 Building. This cleanup approach not only reduces risk for workers but also achieves cleanup sooner and at a lower cost than other options considered.
