PUBLIC NOTICE
Hanford Sitewide Permit draft renewal public comment period
The Washington State Department of Ecology is holding a 120-day public comment period for the Hanford Dangerous Waste Permit (Sitewide Permit) draft renewal revision 9A (Rev. 9A). The permittee is the U.S. Department of Energy. The Hanford Site is in southeastern Washington.
The comment period will be open June 29 12:00 am to Oct. 27, 2026,11:59 pm.
Proposed changes
Rev. 9A of the Sitewide Permit will cover 52 waste sites and facilities across Hanford. In this revision, the agency addressed more than 5,000 comments received from the public, Tribal Nations, and the permittees submitted during the 2012 public comment period. This feedback led to extensive revisions to incorporate the comments and address deficiencies. Ecology's priority is to issue a current permit that is protective of human health and the environment and enforceable under state and federal regulations.
Review and comment
