PUBLIC NOTICE
The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) expects to conduct spongy moth treatments in Lakewood, Pierce County, WA beginning in early May 2026. The product to be used is Foray® 48B (EPA Reg. No. 73049-427) which contains the active ingredient Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki (Btk), a biological insecticide for the control of lepidopteran larvae. The product will be applied aerially by fixed wing aircraft to 498 acres. For an application to occur, weather conditions must be favorable. Treatments may be postponed in the event of inclement weather. No water use restrictions or precautions need to be taken. Treatments will be conducted under a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit issued by the Washington State Department of Ecology (ECY).
