PUBLIC NOTICE CITY OF UNIVERSITY PLACE PUBLIC HEARING ON ZONING AMENDMENTS RELATED TO CO-LIVING AND CHILD CARE CENTERS The City of University Place Planning Commission will conduct a hybrid public hearing on August 19, 2026 beginning at 7:00 p.m. to consider development regulation amendments concerning co-living housing and child care centers. In 2024, the State passed House Bill 1998, requiring co-living housing be allowed as a permitted use in certain multifamily and mixed-use zones. In 2025, the State passed Senate Bill 5509, requiring child care centers be allowed in all zones except industrial, light industrial, and opens space zones. The proposed amendments will implement these new state requiremetns. Proposed amendments are posted on the City's webpage at www.cityofup.com.
