Public Meeting Notice of the Planning Commission Notice is hereby given that the Pierce County Planning Commission will hold a regular meeting on May 26, 2026, at 9:30 AM at the Pierce County Public Services Bldg. (Annex), Public Meeting Room, 2401 S. 35th St., Tacoma. To participate in the remote meeting option, visit Zoom.com and click 'Join a Meeting' or call 253-215-8782. The Commission will receive briefings on the following items: 2029 Shoreline Master Program Periodic Review: The Shoreline Master Program (SMP), prepared by Pierce County Planning & Public Works – Long Range Planning Division, is a set of local policies, plans, and regulations that guide the use of shorelines of the state within Pierce County, ensuring public access, protecting shoreline natural resources, and supporting water-dependent uses. Pierce County is currently reviewing and updating their SMP for consistency with the Shoreline Management Act (SMA) and most recent and accurate science available. All draft supporting studies, plans, and regulations will be available at https://www.piercecountywa.gov/956/Shoreline-Master-Program. This project will conclude in June of 2029. Contact: Nicolas Reibel, Senior Long Range Planner, (253) 798-6236 Overview of Upcoming Work on Involuntary Detention Facilities: The Planning Commission will be briefed on the proposed workplan for amendments to Pierce County Code regarding facilities that involve involuntary detention. Staff will provide an overview of upcoming work, proposed delineation of different uses, and engagement efforts regarding different types of detention facilities. The briefing will provide an overview of siting for different facilities in Pierce County and an anticipated timeline of the legislative process. No actions are proposed or requested from the Commission at this time.
