NOTICE OF DISCHARGED OF UNTREATED SEWAGE The City of Raleigh had a discharge of untreated wastewater from the collection system located in the vicinity of 2800 Airport Boulevard, Raleigh, NC 27650 of approximately 1.15 million gallons. The untreated wastewater from this spill, which was caused by the actions of a third-party contractor unaffiliated with the City of Raleigh, was contained onsite and did not reach surface waters. The discharge occurred on May 12, 2026, for approximately 14 hours. Sometime during the cleanup operations conducted on May 12, 2026, untreated wastewater was deposited by a third-party contractor unaffiliated with the City of Raleigh into the City of Raleigh's stormwater collection system at 7601 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612. Approximately 223,125 gallons of untreated wastewater entered into Turkey Creek in the Neuse River Basin. In order to protect human health and environment, City of Raleigh staff immediately initiated voluntary cleanup operations, which were completed on May 21, 2026. In addition, the City of Raleigh issued Notices of Violation on May 19, 2026, to both the contractor who caused the initial discharge and the contractor who caused the illicit discharge into the stormwater system pursuant Raleigh City Code Sec. 13-5007. The City of Raleigh and the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality continue to investigate and will take additional enforcement actions if necessary. This notice was required by North Carolina General Statutes Article 21, Chapter 143.215C.
