Washington Department of Ecology Seeks Public Comment on Revised Draft Environmental Impact Statement For Chehalis Basin Flood Reduction Project The Department of Ecology (Ecology) invites you to comment on the revised draft environmental review of the proposed Chehalis Basin Flood Damage Reduction project. The Chehalis River Basin Flood Control Zone District is proposing a project to reduce flood damage in the Chehalis-Centralia area by: Constructing a flood retention facility and associated temporary reservoir near Pe Ell, Washington, on the Chehalis River Making changes to the Chehalis-Centralia Airport levee The purpose of the environmental review is to evaluate the probable significant environmental impacts from construction and operation of the proposed project. Ecology initially prepared the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) under the Washington State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) in 2020. After release of the 2020 Draft EIS, the Flood Control Zone District revised the project design and location. As a result, Ecology conducted a second environmental review on the new project design. Ecology will accept comments on the revised draft SEPA EIS during the extended 75-day comment period from November 20, 2025, through February 4, 2026. There are multiple ways to submit comments, including online, by mail, and at public hearings. All comments will be valued equally, regardless of how they are submitted.
