NOTICE The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida announces the following Board Policy action will be taken at its meeting on: SEPTEMBER 9, 2026 1:00 P.M. School Board Auditorium 1450 N.E. Second Avenue Miami, Florida 33132 To Amend School Policies 2215.01, K-8 Centers, and 5120, Student School Assignment and Attendance Boundary Committee, pursuant to Board action. Policy 2215.01 would be revised to clarify that students who do not wish to continue in grades 6–8 at their K-8 centers can be placed in any available school. Policy 5120 would be revised to incorporate the Board's directives; to require that community meetings take place no later than the September preceding a proposed boundary change, and that rulemaking be initiated no later than that December; and to remove the requirement that alternate proposals be reviewed by the applicable Region and Attendance Boundary Committee. Specific Authority: Fla. Stat. ss. 1001.41(1)-(2), (6); 1001.42(4); 1001.43(10). Laws Implemented, Interpreted, or Made Specific: Fla. Stat. ss. 1001.42(4); 1001.49(3); 1002.31; 1003.06. To Amend School Board Policy 2431, Interscholastic Activities and Athletics, to incorporate changes made by 2026 Florida Senate Bills 178 and 538 (S.B. 178 and S.B. 538). The policy would now refer generally to "eligible students," as defined by statute; define other statutory terms for reference; replace specific references to the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) with references to "governing organizations"; clarify that students in grades 6–8 in schools serving students in grades 6–12 may compete on varsity sports teams; remove "good cause circumstances" as an athletic transfer exception for the District's Athletic Activity Eligibility Transfer Review Committee to review; authorize activity fees to be assessed to all students (with certain fees requiring Board approval); require offering any available insurance to all students; require keeping students' eligibility records on file at each school and transferring these records to a governing organization upon request; define "head coach," and authorize a head coach to support the welfare of a student he or she coaches only by using personal funds to provide, in good faith, effects such as food, transportation, and recovery services; impose conditions and reporting requirements in line with FHSAA bylaws and existing School Board; and clarify that head coaches who use their personal funds to benefit students are doing so in their individual capacities. The policy would also be renamed to capture all extracurricular activities. Specific Authority: Fla. Stat. ss. 1001.41; 1001.42(8); 1006.195. Laws Implemented, Interpreted, or Made Specific: Fla. Stat. ss. 1002.20, 1002.31(6), 1006.15, 1006.165, 1006.195, 1006.20. If requested, a hearing will be held during the September 9, 2026 School Board meeting. Persons request­ing such a hearing must submit a written request to the Superin­tendent of Schools, Room 912, same address as above, by August 18, 2026. The policy will be effec­tive upon filing with The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida on September 9, 2026. A person wishing to appeal any decision made by The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, with respect to any action on this policy should ensure the prepa­ration of a verbatim record of the proceed­ings, including the testimony and evi­dence upon which the appeal is to be based. Copies of the policy and the notice of inten­ded action are avail­able to the public for inspec­tion and copying at cost in the Citizen Information Center, Room 102, 1450 N.E.
