The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida will soon consider a measure to continue to impose a 1.5 mill property tax for the capital outlay projects listed herein.
This tax is in addition to the school board’s proposed tax of 4.9990 mills for operating expenses and is proposed solely at the discretion of the school board.
THE PROPOSED COMBINED SCHOOL BOARD TAX INCREASE FOR BOTH OPERATING EXPENSES AND CAPITAL OUTLAY IS SHOWN IN THE ADJACENT NOTICE
The capital outlay tax will generate approximately $854,230,284 to be used for the following projects:
CONSTRUCTION AND REMODELING PAYMENT OF COSTS OF COMPLIANCE Capital Outlay Administration WITH ENVIRONMENTAL STATUTES, New instructional facilities RULES, AND REGULATIONS Additions/remodeling of instructional Environmental hazards/asbestos abatement facilities PAYMENT OF PREMIUMS FOR PROPERTY Sites/site improvements AND CASUALTY INSURANCE MAINTENANCE, RENOVATION, AND NECESSARY TO INSURE THE REPAIR EDUCATIONAL AND ANCILLARY PLANTS Reimbursement of the maintenance, OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT renovation, and repairs paid through the Property and Casualty Insurance up to General Fund as permitted by Florida Statute statutory limit per unweighted full-time Maintenance services equivalent student Instructional facilities renovations PAYMENTS TO PRIVATE ENTITIES TO Roof repair & replacement OFFSET THE COST OF SCHOOL BUSES Support services renovations PURSUANT TO S. 1011.71(2)(i), F.S. Safety to life repairs Contract with various private entities for Renovations for handicapped 60 buses offsetting the cost of transporting MOTOR VEHICLE PURCHASES students Annual master lease purchase payments for PAYMENT OF SALARIES AND BENEFITS 152 school buses Salaries and benefits for school bus drivers NEW AND REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT, CHARTER SCHOOL CAPITAL OUTLAY COMPUTER AND DEVICE HARDWARE PROJECTS PURSUANT TO S. 1013.62(4), AND OPERATING SYSTEM SOFTWARE F.S. NECESSARY FOR GAINING ACCESS TO Purchase of real property OR ENHANCING THE USE OF ELECTRONIC Construction of school facilities AND DIGITAL INSTRUCTIONAL CONTENT Purchase or lease of permanent or relocatable AND RESOURCES, AND ENTERPRISE school facilities RESOURCE SOFTWARE Purchase of vehicles to transport students Annual master lease purchase payments for Renovation, repair, and maintenance of new/ replacement equipment school facilities Instructional program equipment Payment of the cost of premiums for property Support services equipment and casualty insurance necessary to ensure District-wide FF&E school facilities PAYMENTS FOR EDUCATIONAL Purchase or lease of driver’s education FACILITIES AND SITES DUE UNDER A vehicles, maintenance vehicles, security LEASE-PURCHASE AGREEMENT vehicles, or vehicles used in storing or Annual master lease purchase payments for distributing materials and equipment various facilities and renovations Computer and device hardware and operating Annual master lease purchase payments for system software necessary for gaining Qualified Zone Academy Bonds for various access to or enhancing the use of electronic facilities renovations and technology and digital instructional content and Annual master lease purchase payments for resources, and enterprise resource software site purchases Payment of costs of opening day collection for Annual master lease purchase payments for library media center Qualified School Construction Bonds and Build America Bonds for various facilities/ renovations PAYMENTS FOR RENTING AND LEASING EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES AND SITES Leases for school and district facilities
All concerned citizens are invited to a public hearing to be held on July 29, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Board Auditorium, Miami-Dade County School Board Administration Building, 1450 N.E. Second Avenue, Miami, Florida, 33132.
A DECISION on the proposed CAPITAL OUTLAY TAXES will be made at this hearing.
