NOTICE OF INTENT TO CLOSE SCHOOL BUILDINGS TO THE ELECTORS OF UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 233, JOHNSON COUNTY, KANSAS (OLATHE): You are hereby notified pursuant to K.S.A. 72-1431, of a public hearing to be held on the 22nd day of September, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., at Olathe South High School, 1640 E. 151st Street, Olathe, KS 66062, regarding the proposal of Unified School District No. 233, Johnson County, Kansas, to close Black Bob Elementary, Fairview Elementary, Heritage Elementary, Indian Trail Middle School, Ridgeview Elementary, Scarborough Elementary, Tomahawk Elementary, and Walnut Grove Elementary, in order to improve the school system. Closure of the identified school buildings is recommended in response to declining district enrollment, underutilized school facilities, and the necessity of managing taxpayer funds responsibly. Affected students attending Black Bob Elementary, Fairview Elementary, Heritage Elementary, Indian Trail Middle School, Ridgeview Elementary, Scarborough Elementary, Tomahawk Elementary, and Walnut Grove Elementary, shall be reassigned to one of the following school buildings: Arbor Creek Elementary, Briarwood Elementary, Brougham Elementary, Central Elementary, Chisholm Trail Middle School, Countryside Elementary, Frontier Trail Middle School, Green Springs Elementary, Havencroft Elementary, Heatherstone Elementary, Indian Creek Elementary, Madison Place Elementary, Millbrooke Elementary, Northview Elementary, Oregon Trail Middle School, Pioneer Trail Middle School, Pleasant Ridge Elementary, Ravenwood Elementary, Santa Fe Trail Middle School, and Sunnyside Elementary. A representative of the Board of Education will present the proposal to close Black Bob Elementary, Fairview Elementary, Heritage Elementary, Indian Trail Middle School, Ridgeview Elementary, Scarborough Elementary, Tomahawk Elementary, and Walnut Grove Elementary, and the Board of Education will hear testimony as to the advisability of the proposed closing.
