NOTICE OF FIVE-YEAR REVIEW MCRD PARRIS ISLAND, SC The United States Navy (Navy) and Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island, in coordination with the United States Environmental Protection Agency Region 4 and the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services, has completed the Five-Year Review for Operable Unit 1 (Site 1 and Solid Waste Management Unit 41) - Incinerator Landfill and Former Incinerator, Operable Unit 3 (Site 3) - Causeway Landfill, Operable Unit 4 (Sites 32 and 45) – Laundry Satellite Accumulation Area and Dry Cleaning Facility, and Operable Unit 5 (Site 12) - Jericho Island Disposal Area at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina. This Five-Year Review was performed by the Navy as part of the Installation Restoration Program for the Department of the Navy, following applicable guidelines under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act. The Navy conducted the Five-Year Review with evaluation of pending, completed, and ongoing remedial actions implemented at Operable Unit 1, Operable Unit 3, Operable Unit 4, and Operable Unit 5 to determine whether the selected remedies remain effective. No issues affecting protectiveness were identified during the Five-Year Review; the remedies at all four operable units remain, or will be, protective of human health and the environment. The next Five-Year Review is scheduled for 2030.
