Public Notice – HQB-JQW3-9RZR1 The Callawassie Island POA has applied to South Carolina Department of Environmental Services, Bureau of Coastal Management for a permit to replace an existing private bridge for private use over Chechessee Creek along Callawassie Drive in Okatie, Beaufort County, SC. The proposed replacement bridge will have the same dimensions as the current bridge. The bridge dimensions will be approximately 45' x 120'. The soffit of the existing bridge is inundated at high tides. The replacement structure soffit will be elevated approximately 6.5'. Bents supporting the existing bridge will be removed. Total impacts for the bridge removal and replacement and bent pile installation are estimated to be 2,540 sq. ft. Impacts associated with installation of new bent pile supports is 185 sq. ft. Additional work includes the expansion of the existing revetment with 3,205 sq. ft. of rip rap to critical areas for stabilization. Additional rip rap will be installed within the existing revetment footprint to maintain an adequate slope, impacting a total of 7,695 sq. ft. of critical area tidelands. The purpose of this project is to replace the bridge and maintain access to Callawassie and Spring Islands.
