CITY OF FIREBAUGH
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN the Firebaugh City Council will conduct public hearings at 1655 13th St., Firebaugh, CA, on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 5:30 pm for the following:
To consider adoption of Resolution No. 26-35, calling an election to be consolidated with the General Municipal Election to be held on November 3, 2026, and submitting to the voters a proposed Special Fire and Emergency Response Parcel Tax.
The proposed measure would establish a locally controlled special parcel tax dedicated exclusively to fire protection and emergency medical response services within the City of Firebaugh. Revenue generated by the tax would be used only for Firebaugh Fire Department services, including:
• Providing 24-hour, 7-day-per-week emergency response coverage;
• Hiring and training firefighters and emergency medical personnel;
• Maintaining, repairing, replacing, and upgrading fire engines, rescue vehicles, emergency medical equipment, protective gear, communications systems, and related public safety resources;
• Improving emergency preparedness and response capabilities; and
• Supporting firefighter and EMT training.
The ballot measure would impose an annual parcel tax of $95 on single-family residential parcels and specified amounts on multifamily, commercial, agricultural, and industrial parcels. The measure is estimated to generate approximately $240,000 annually and would remain in effect unless ended by the voters.
If approved by at least two-thirds of voters, all revenue from the measure would be deposited into a dedicated special fund and used solely for fire protection and emergency medical response purposes. The measure includes independent community oversight, annual audits, annual public reporting, and restrictions prohibiting the use of funds for any purpose other than those approved by voters.
At the hearing, all interested persons will have an opportunity to be heard regarding the proposed resolution and ballot measure.
A copy of Resolution No. 26-35 and the full text of the proposed ordinance are available for public review at the Office of the City Clerk, Firebaugh City Hall, 1133 P Street, Firebaugh, California, during regular business hours.
