Georgia Department of Transportation To Hold A Location and Design Public Information Open House For PI 0019520 Muscogee County On Thursday, September 10, 2026 at the Northside Recreation Center, located at 2010 American Way, Columbus, GA, 31909, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT)/Transportation Investment Act (TIA) Program will hold a Public Information Open House concerning the proposed project. This project proposes to widen County Road (CR) 2249/Williams Road from Williams Way Drive to Frank Houser Avenue/Builders Way to accommodate a two-way center left turn lane throughout the corridor. Additional improvements include a 10-foot shared-use path on the north side and a 5-foot sidewalk on the south side with curb and gutter for enhanced multi-modal connectivity, as well as additional auxiliary lanes and realignment at key intersections for improved access control and safety. Drainage system upgrades to accommodate the additional impervious area are also proposed. Improvements also include providing a dedicated receiving lane for left turns onto CR 2249/Williams Road from the I-185 Southbound exit ramp. The addition of a new interchange roundabout at the intersection of CR 2249/Williams Road and the I-185 northbound ramp and the addition of a dogbone roundabout at the intersection of Frank Houser Avenue/Builders Way and CR 2249/Williams Road are currently proposed to address crash history and improve safety. The project will also tie into the existing roundabout at CR 2249/Williams Road and Fortson Road. The purpose of this location and Public Information Open House is to provide the public with an opportunity to view the project, ask questions, and comment on the project. There will be no formal presentation. The Open House will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. It will be informal, and the public is invited to attend anytime during these hours. A court reporter will be available to allow the public an opportunity to make verbal comments about the project. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Information: The meeting site is accessible to persons with disabilities. Accommodations for people with disabilities can be arranged with advance notice by contacting the District Planning and Programming Liaison, Harland Smith, at 706-646-7566 or hasmith@dot.ga.gov.
