The above name children having been born to Khadijaha Burks, a Petition for Appointment of a Permanent Guardian having been filed on December 22, 2025, pursuant to O.C.G.A. §15-11-240, and the whereabouts of the legal father being unknown, an order for service by publication was entered.
The Petition for Appointment of Permanent Guardian seeks to place the above referenced children in the permanent guardianship of their current placement. A copy of the petition may be obtained from the Juvenile Court of Troup County, Georgia located at 118 Ridley Avenue, LaGrange, GA 30240.
This is to notify you to be and appear before the Juvenile Court of Troup County, Georgia located at 118 Ridley Avenue, LaGrange, GA 30240 on February 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., then and there to show cause, if any, as why said petition should not be granted.
This is a notice informing you that you are entitled to either object to the establishment of a permanent guardianship or to the selection of the proposed guardian or both. An objection must be filed in writing with the Juvenile Court within ten (10) days of the date of the second publication of this notice. If you fail to appear at the hearing, the court can appoint a permanent guardian for the above-named minor in your absence.
Notice to Biological Fathers who are not Legal Fathers:
Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 29-2-15, the biological father who is not the legal father is hereby notified that he will lose all rights to the children named in this petition and will not be entitled to object to the appointment of a permanent guardian for the minor unless:
Within ten (10) days of the date of the second publication of this notice, he files a written objection setting forth the grounds of any such objection with this Court AND
He files a petition to legitimate the minor within thirty (30) days of the hearing on your objection. If you fail to file a petition for legitimation within 30 days or your petition is dismissed for failure to prosecute, or if an order issues on your petition which does not name you as the father of the minor, you will have no further rights to receive notice or object to the appointment of a permanent guardian for the minor.
All pleadings must be signed before a notary public.
You are further notified that you are entitled to counsel in the proceedings and that the court will appoint counsel for you if you are unable to afford an attorney without undue financial hardship.
