Request for Feedback
For P.I. No. 0017138
Muscogee County
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is requesting review and feedback on the proposed project. We appreciate your participation in this process.
This project proposes to construct a new alignment roadway, named Military Drive consisting of one 12-foot lane in each direction, curb and gutter, a five-foot sidewalk on the west side of the road and an 11-foot wide shared-use path on the east side of the road. The new alignment Military Drive would be constructed through a wooded, undeveloped parcel currently owned by the National Infantry Museum Foundation, adjacent to Fort Benning Military Base. No acquisition or use of land from within Fort Benning would be required for construction of the proposed Military Drive, although signing of the existing roundabout on base property may be required. The road would connect on the north end to Infantry Road, which is to be constructed between Fort Benning Road and South Lumpkin Road. This unrelated federally-funded Infantry Road project (PI No. 0015285) is currently under construction and will be completed before the Military Drive (PI No. 0017138) Let date which is currently January 2028. On the south end, the proposed Military Drive would connect with the existing roundabout in front of the Hampton Inn Hotel, adjacent to the National Infantry Museum parking lot. The total length of the project is approximately 0.48 mile. The proposed project would provide connectivity and improve traffic flow to and from the National Infantry Museum and local lodging without directing traffic onto and through Fort Benning.
GDOT has placed information about the proposed project at https://www.dot.ga.gov/GDOT/Pages/PublicOutreach.aspx. The information on the website is provided in place of an in-person meeting allowing the public to review the proposed project, provide feedback, or write in with questions.
