PUBLIC NOTICE South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) Bureau of Land and Waste Management 2600 Bull Street Columbia, SC 29201 NOTICE OF A DRAFT HAZARDOUS MANAGEMENT WASTE PERMIT SAFTY-KLEEN SYSTEMS, INC. 2818 OLD WOODRUFF ROAD GREER, SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA SCD 981 031 040 South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) has received a permit application for hazardous waste management activities at Safety-Kleen Systems, Inc (Greer). The permit application has been deemed complete and a draft hazardous waste management permit has been written by SCDES to regulate these activities. The draft permit has been written to comply with the South Carolina Hazardous Waste Management Regulations. The draft permit contains conditions for the following: • Storage of hazardous waste in containers and tanks; • Identification of solid waste management units (SWMUs) and areas of concern (AOCs) at the facility and corrective action for those units; • Waste minimization and land disposal restrictions The permit application and draft permit are open for public comment from Friday, July 24, 2026, through Tuesday, September 8, 2026. SCDES encourages all interested persons to participate in this permitting process. Written comments or requests for a formal public hearing must be submitted no later than Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and should be addressed to Mr. Kent Krieg at the above SCDES address or by e-mail at Kent.Krieg@des.sc.gov. All written comments received by Tuesday, September 8, 2026, will be considered before a final permit decision is made. If a public hearing is requested and scheduled, notice will be given at least thirty days in advance. Requests to be placed on the facility mailing list for notification of future public notices by SCDES Division of Waste Management should be made in writing to the attention of Ms. Norma West at the above SCDES address or by e-mail at Norma.West@des.sc.gov.
