2026 PUBLIC NOTICE
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR CANDIDATES TO FILL VACANCIES
ON THE SOUTH CAROLINA BEEF COUNCIL
Pursuant to the provisions of the "Agricultural Commodities Marketing Act" and the Marketing Order for South Carolina Beef issued by the Agriculture Commission of South Carolina, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the terms of office of approximately 1/3 of the board members of the South Carolina Beef Council, expire on June 30, 2026, and, therefore, the listed vacancies shall occur at that time.
The function and mission of the SC Beef Council is to support the national and state joint check-off programs in promotion, consumer information/education, research, industry information, producer communications and market development programs. There are board seats open in each of the following highlighted Districts (1, 2, 4, & 5):
District 1 includes the Counties of Anderson, Cherokee, Greenville, Laurens, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg, and Union
District 2 includes the Counties of Chester, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, and York
District 3 includes the Counties of Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Marion, Marlboro, and Williamsburg
District 4 includes the Counties of Abbeville, Aiken, Edgefield, Greenwood, Newberry, McCormick, and Saluda
District 5 includes the Counties of Calhoun, Clarendon, Lee, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, and Sumter
District 6 includes the Counties of Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton, and Jasper
If you are interested in becoming a SC Beef Council board member and reside in one of the listed Districts/Counties with an open board seat, you will need to request a petition. This petition can be requested by calling (803) 734-9807, (803) 734-2217 or by emailing elloyd@scda.sc.gov . All petitions must be received by Thursday, May 21, 2026 . For a petition to be eligible/accepted, it must be signed by no less than five beef producers from the counties of the district seat you are petitioning for.
Terms of office are for 3 years. To qualify, a candidate must be a resident of South Carolina and be actively engaged in the production of beef within the State of South Carolina for a period of no less than one year. Additionally, during that one-year period, candidate will have derived a substantial portion of his/her income there from and shall continue to do so during their term of office. The Beef council holds approximately 4 quarterly meetings per year to conduct their business. Reimbursement for mileage is paid for travel to and from meetings in addition to a $50 per diem.
