PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING
MEETING:
Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Capital Center, Lower Lobby, 1201 Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina, 29201. The City of Columbia will be hosting an informal, drop-in format meeting with project information and displays for viewing. A formal presentation will not be given; however, project staff will be available to answer questions, and public comments will be collected.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this meeting is to provide information and solicit feedback from area residents on the proposed pedestrian safety improvements along Assembly Street from Pendleton Street to Lady Street. The Main Street/Vista District Connector will include the installation of sidewalks that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), curb bump-outs at crosswalks to reduce crossing distances, removal of median parking to eliminate mid-block crossings, and additional pedestrian safety measures. Work will include the removal and replacement of the current sidewalks on either side of Assembly Street and the installation of a raised, planted median. Engineering, Right-of-Way, and Environmental personnel from the City of Columbia, SC Department of Transportation, and the design team will be available to answer questions. Plans will be displayed showing the proposed project.
