PUBLIC NOTICE The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services Bureau of Water - Water Quantity Permitting Section 2600 Bull Street Columbia, South Carolina Refer to: Public Notice # 35WS001S Pursuant to the South Carolina Surface Water Withdrawal, Permitting, Use and Reporting Act [49-4-10] and Regulation 61-119, Surface Water Withdrawal, Permitting, Use and Reporting an application was received by the Department on December 30, 2025 from: McCormick Water Treatment Plant requesting a permit modification to withdraw surface water from Thurmond Lake for potable supply. Information about the withdrawal is presented in the permit application. The application specifies a withdrawal in Thurmond Lake at - 33.86828000, -82.35167100. The requested maximum amount of the withdrawal is 130 million gallons per month. NOTICE - is hereby given that written statements regarding the withdrawal will be received by the Department at the address listed above as well as through the SCDES public notice portal until April 27th at 5:00 PM, from any parties interested in the withdrawal and those whose interests may be affected by the withdrawal. If within thirty (30) days of the publication of this public notice the Department receives a request to hold a public hearing from at least twenty (20) citizens or residents of the affected area, the Department will conduct a hearing. Any request for a public hearing shall be made in writing to the office listed above, shall be received by the date listed above and shall include the name and legal address of the person making the request. In order to establish eligibility under the "affected area" provision, the affected area for this project shall be the Savannah River Basin(s) as defined in R.61-119.F.1.e.iii.
