Notice of Fare Increase- Mecklenburg Transportation System (MTS) The Mecklenburg Transportation System (MTS), Mecklenburg County's non-emergency medical and general public transportation service, is scheduled on July 1, 2026, to increase its one-way fare for non-Medicaid approved trips from $1.50 to $2.25. Transportation with MTS is available to eligible seniors or disabled residents for rides to medical appointments, such as dialysis or chemotherapy, adult day care, grocery stores, food banks, farmers markets, paid employment, and post-secondary education trips. Trips for Medicaid-approved appointments will continue at no cost to the customer. The fare adjustment is due to significant increases in operating costs, such as fuel, vehicle maintenance, equipment, and other service needs.
