Project Description: Metcon is soliciting prequalification information from first-tier subcontractors for the CMS New North Middle School #2 project. This new three-story structure, constructed with steel and masonry, is part of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools' initiative to enhance efficiency and reduce overall construction expenses while maintaining the educational program. To adapt the existing CMS prototype to a smaller site, the HCM design team has optimized the building layout to improve efficiency without compromising instructional space and support facilities. The building encompasses approximately 135,200 square feet in accordance with the 2024 North Carolina Building Code, with roughly 80,000 square feet on the first floor. This efficient design aligns with CMS's priorities for durability, ease of maintenance, and long-term value, ensuring the school is functional, adaptable, and compliant with district standards. The project scope also includes comprehensive athletic facilities—baseball, softball, and football fields—as well as a synthetic-turf track and field complex.
