AIR FORCE CIVIL ENGINEER CENTER
PUBLIC NOTICE of PLANNED FIVE-YEAR REVIEW
Mountain Home Air Force Base
The United States Air Force (USAF) in coordination with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (IDEQ), is conducting the sixth Five-Year Review at Mountain Home Air Force Base (MHAFB) in Elmore County, Idaho (EPA ID# ID3572124557). Environmental remedial actions at MHAFB are being addressed under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA, known as Superfund) Section 121.
Remedial actions to address environmental concerns at MHAFB are specified in final Records of Decision (RODs) and a ROD Amendment signed between 1992 and 2024 by the USAF, IDEQ, and EPA. The USAF has been conducting cleanup and monitoring activities since the 1980s to ensure continued protection of human health and the environment. Remedial actions are still underway or have been completed but remain in monitoring status. The Five-Year Review is required every five years by Superfund to determine whether the remedy at the site continues to be protective of human health and the environment when contaminants remain at a site. The review includes inspection of the site and cleanup technologies; review of monitoring, performance, and maintenance records; and evaluation of any new relevant regulatory requirements that have been established since the cleanup decision was finalized. A summary of activities and an evaluation of the protectiveness of the implemented remedies will be included in the Five-Year Review Report.
This notice invites any interested person to provide written comments and/or to schedule a telephone interview to provide comments. The Five-Year Review Report will consider all written and interview comments received during this public comment period beginning on/about January 27, 2026 and ending on February 26, 2026. Interview requests must be submitted by February 12, 2026. The final report is expected to be available to the public after September 30, 2026.
