CITY OF MOSS POINT JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Building a sustainable Moss Point through progressive leadership, fiscal transparency, and public safety while enhancing quality of life through equity, economic growth, and diversity. CITY OF MOSS POINT'S REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS FOR MUNICIPAL COURT JUDGE The City of Moss Point is seeking qualified applicants to serve as the Municipal Court Judge. As the presiding judge, you will set the standards for judicial conduct and decision-making in the Court; lead and contribute to programs designed to improve the community; and collaborate with peers and colleagues on legislative recommendations and long-range planning for the Court. The Municipal Court Judge is a part-time position that is responsible for applying relevant Supreme Court rules, State statutes, City ordinances, and case law when presiding at pre-trial conferences, arraignments, motions, trials, and other hearings. Specific duties of the Municipal Court Judge shall include the following: Act as Presiding Judge in Municipal Court for traffic and municipal code violations. Hold regular court sessions on a schedule determined by the Municipal Judge, generally four (4) sessions per month. The current court schedule is set for Fridays at 9:00 a.m. and it is the preference of the city that said schedule be maintained. Required to be responsive to communication by telephone or email for needs outside the courtroom, which will involve calls from officers for warrants to be signed. These calls occur throughout the day and night and are not limited to working hours. Required to perform initial appearances and see inmates at the Adult Detention Center as required by law. If selected, the individual will take office on June 26, 2026. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from law school with a Juris Doctorate degree AND five (5) years of experience as a practicing attorney (preferably with in-court background); OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Mississippi. Must be a citizen of the United States. Must complete annual continuing education requirements as required by state statute. Benefits and Compensation: This position is entitled to City benefits plus a salary that may be negotiated.
