NOTICE Draft – Early 30 Day Notice "Notice for Early Public Review of a Proposal to Support Activity in the 100-Year Floodplain" To: All Interested Agencies, Groups, and Individuals This is to give notice that the Jackson County Board of Supervisors (JCBOS) proposes to undertake the following: JCBOS STATE HIGHWAY 609 GATEWAY PROJECT The JCBOS is requesting the use of U.S. Department of the Treasury Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities, and Revived Economies (RESTORE) Act funding for improvements to Washington Avenue (State Route 609) in western Jackson County. In deciding whether to fund the proposed project, the U.S. Department of the Treasury is obligated to follow requirements set forth by Section 2(a)(4) of Executive Order 11988 for Floodplain Management. This Notice of Intent is being provided in fulfillment of the aforementioned Executive Order. The project site is in the City of Ocean Springs, Jackson County, Mississippi. The project limits for the improvements begin at the intersection of Washington Avenue and U.S. Highway 90 and extend north approximately 2.75 miles to Interstate 10. The State Highway 609 Gateway Project site is approximately 78 acres, of which 16.49 acres are located within the 100-year floodplain (Zone AE), as shown on Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) Map Numbers 28059C0287G (effective 03/16/2009) and 28059C0279H (effective 12/21/2017). Base flood elevation (BFE) is 16-19 feet above sea level. The proposed improvement project has been designed and will be constructed in accordance with the floodplain management requirements of the local community's ordinance, which meet or exceed the minimum standards of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The proposed project is not anticipated to result in adverse impacts to the floodplain. Members of the public are invited to submit comments on the proposed activity.
