View original fileDEADLINE TO FILE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION
Wednesday, April 1 is the deadline to file or update a Homestead Exemption with Jackson County Assessor Nick Elmore’s Office. Any Mississippi resident who purchased a home as their primary
dwelling in 2025 should file for this tax break. An update is needed for existing applications ONLY if there was a change in status in
2025. Status changes include: death, divorce, separation, marriage, or a new deed. Documentation required for first-time filing
includes: recorded copy of the deed, social security numbers, birthdates, purchase price of home/land, mobile home registration
and all car tag numbers. ALL car tags must be registered in Jackson County before filing. Over 65 applicants need proof of age (e.g.
Driver’s License) and 100% disabled applicants should bring proof showing the date of disability. 100% Disabled Veterans, or their
un-remarried surviving spouse, should contact our office to verify if this exemption is being applied to your Homestead Exemption.
