PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD Georgia-Pacific West Cleanup Site June 1, 12:00 am–July 1, 11:59 pm, 2026 The Georgia-Pacific West cleanup site is in downtown Bellingham along the waterfront. Operations from a pulp and tissue mill caused soil and groundwater contamination that must be addressed to protect human health and the environment. Much of the site has been cleaned up, and the remaining parts of the Chlor-Alkali Area will be cleaned up next. Ecology seeks public input on two documents: a consent decree (legal agreement) that settles liability and requires the Port of Bellingham to carry out Ecology’s cleanup action plan to address contamination, and an updated public participation plan. Review and comment: www.go.ecology.wa.gov/GPWest Join us for two public events: Wednesday, June 10, 2026 RE Sources, a local nonprofit organization, will host a walking tour of the site, followed by an open house hosted by Ecology. Staff from Ecol- ogy and the Port will be available to answer questions. • Walking Tour: 3:30-5 p.m. Please prepare for a 1-mile unpaved loop. Register: www.re-sources.org/2026/05/gp-west-tour/ • Open House: 5-7 p.m. Stop by to talk with us and learn about the site. While no formal presentation is planned, handouts and visuals will be available. • Location: Meet us at the white tent at the Portal Container Village on West Laurel St. QUESTIONS?
