WHATCOM COUNTY NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR A MAJOR VARIANCE AND INTENT TO ISSUE A SEPA DETERMINATION OF NON-SIGNIFICANCE Notice is hereby given that on March 12, 2026, Whatcom Developers Inc. applied for Variance Review under case number VAR-MAJ2026-00002 & SEPA2025-00029 to construct a single-family residence. Variance review is required due to impacts to wetlands on site pursuant to WCC Title 16.16. The application was determined complete on March 12, 2026, indicating that all submittal requirements were met. The subject property is located at 7335 Jackson Rd. within Section 36, Township 40, Range 1 W of W.M. Assessor's parcel number(s): 405136574046. The application will be reviewed under the Official Whatcom County Zoning and Critical Areas Ordinances, as well as reviews by Whatcom County Planning and Development Services (Fire Marshal's Office, Natural Resources and Planning), Public Works Engineering and Health Department and State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) as applicable. Mitigation may be required pursuant to these ordinances. Whatcom County Planning and Development Services has reviewed the proposal for probable adverse impacts and expects to issue a Determination of Non-Significance (DNS) for the project pursuant to the Optional DNS process per WAC 197-11-355. This may be your only opportunity to comment on the environmental impacts of the proposed project. A copy of the subsequent threshold determination for the specific proposal may be obtained upon request. The file and supporting documents may be reviewed at Whatcom County Planning and Development Services, 5280 Northwest Drive, Bellingham, WA 98226. Any person may submit written comments to Sam McDaniel, the above address or at smcdanie@co.whatcom.wa.us, within 14 days of the publication of this notice. Written comments must be received by March 30, 2026. Any person has the right to receive notice of and participate in any hearings, request a copy of the decision once made, and to appeal a decision when allowed by law.
