LEGAL NOTICE FERGUSON TOWNSHIP BOARD OF SUPERVISORS PUBLIC HEARING – PROPOSED SPECIAL FIRE PROTECTION TAX ORDINANCE Notice is hereby given that the Board of Supervisors of Ferguson Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Ferguson Township Municipal Building, 3147 Research Drive, State College, Pennsylvania, to consider the following proposed ordinance: "AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWNSHIP OF FERGUSON, CENTRE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, ESTABLISHING A SPECIAL FIRE PROTECTION TAX UNDER AUTHORITY OF THE SECOND-CLASS TOWNSHIP CODE, PROVIDING FOR THE LEVY AND COLLECTION OF SAID TAX, CREATING A RESTRICTED FUND, AND DESIGNATING THE PURPOSES FOR WHICH SUCH REVENUES SHALL BE USED." The proposed ordinance establishes a dedicated Special Fire Protection Tax of one (1.000) mill on all taxable real property within Ferguson Township, beginning with the 2026 fiscal year, to fund fire protection services provided through the Centre Region Council of Governments (COG) and local volunteer fire companies serving the Township. The revised draft incorporates several clarifying changes following review by the Township Solicitor and former Township Manager, including: (1) distinguishing the Special Fire Protection Tax authorized under Section 3205(a)(4) of the Second Class Township Code from the separate Fire Hydrant Tax under Section 3205(a)(5); (2) restricting all revenues to fire protection purposes only; and (3) establishing that millage rates for future fiscal years will be set annually by resolution of the Board of Supervisors.
