NOTICE FROM THE MACON-BIBB COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF INTENTION TO AMEND LOCAL LEGISLATION UNDER HOME RULE POWERS Notice is hereby given of the intent to introduce an ordinance which would amend local legislation under the home rule powers provided for in Section 35 of the Macon-Bibb County Charter, and in accordance with Article IX, Section II, Paragraph I(b)(1) of the Constitution of the State of Georgia. A synopsis of the proposed ordinance is provided as follows: "AN ORDINANCE OF THE MACON-BIBB COUNTY COMMISSION TO AMEND APPENDICES I, II, AND III OF THE MACON-BIBB COUNTY CHARTER, RELATING TO THE MACON-BIBB COUNTY PENSION PLAN, THE MACON-BIBB COUNTY PENSIONS AND RETIREMENT SYSTEM, DIVISION A, AND MACON FIRE AND POLICE EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT SYSTEM, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADDING A NEW DEATH BENEFIT FOR ACTIVE EMPLOYEES IN ALL THREE PLANS, AND FOR REVISING THE MANNER OF CALCULATION FOR PENSION BENEFITS PAYABLE TO RETIRED SUPERIOR COURT JUDGES IN THE MACON-BIBB COUNTY PENSION PLAN, AND FOR OTHER LAWFUL PURPOSES AS PROVIDED FOR HEREIN." will amend all three Macon-Bibb County pension plans for the purpose of adding a death benefit for members of each plan who vest in lifetime plan benefits and who subsequently separate from employment and decease before receiving any pension benefit payments, as well as for members of the Macon Fire and Police Employees Retirement System who decease during their term of employment but for whom no other pension death benefits are available; and further will amend the manner of calculation of pension payments to retired superior court judges under the Macon-Bibb County Pension Plan for the purpose of maintaining current benefit levels in light of state law changes made by 2025 HB 85; and other purposes. Copies of each of this proposed amendment are on file in the office of the clerk of the superior court of Macon-Bibb County for the purpose of examination and inspection by the public. The clerk of superior court shall furnish anyone, upon written request, with a copy of the proposed amendment. Written public comments on this amendment may be submitted via email to commission@maconbibb.us. The proposed dates for consideration of this amendment are at the regular commission meetings of December 2, 2025, and December 16, 2025 at 6:00 P.M. These dates may be subject to change. The Macon-Bibb County Commission agendas are published the Friday before each meeting at https://maconbibbcoga.portal.civicclerk.com/ and may be viewed at that address for confirmation. Members of the public wishing to give in-person verbal comments regarding the amendment may do so at the commission meetings where it is being considered by signing up to speak no later than 5:55 P.M.
