NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
ON TOWN OF CARRBORO APPLICATION FOR CDBG-NR FUNDS
FOR HOME REPAIR ASSISTANCE AND RECREATION AND PARK IMPROVEMENTS
Background
The Town of Carrboro plans to apply to the North Carolina Department of Commerce for $950,000 in Federal Community Development Block Grant – Neighborhood Revitalization Program (CDBG-NR) funds, which the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allocated to the State.
These funds will be used for conducting emergency home repairs on homes owned and occupied by households earning 80% of the Area Median Income or less. Additionally, funds will be used for recreational improvements, including playground resurfacing and replacement at Town Commons and Simpson Park. If awarded the full $950,000 (the maximum grant amount), at least 90 percent of funds would be used to provide financial assistance for home repairs and to fund improvements for public recreation. No more than 10 percent would be used for administration of the program. Receiving these funds would provide significant benefit to low-to-moderate income residents in the Town of Carrboro by promoting housing stability and access to safe and healthy recreation spaces.
