Free chlorine treatment, which is an effective method for cleansing water distribution systems, will be used as an alternative disinfection process than the combined chlorine treatment which is normally used at our regional water plants. This change in treatment will begin October 13, 2025, and will continue through October 26, 2025. During this period, consumers may notice a chlorine taste or smell in their tap water. This temporary condition will not cause any adverse health effects. This annual change in chlorine treatment ensures adequate disinfection levels in the water that we provide for our customers. Consumers may also notice our service vehicles flushing fire hydrants during this two-week period. This is necessary to ensure that water with a “Free Chlorine” residual reaches the extremities of the system, which maximizes the effectiveness of this treatment process. This may result in occasional periods of slightly lower than normal water pressure when hydrants are being flushed in your area.
We thank you for your cooperation during this process that is part of our ongoing effort to provide a safe, potable water supply for the residents of Miami-Dade County.
