PUBLIC NOTICE South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) Bureau of Land and Waste Management 2600 Bull Street Columbia, SC 29201 NOTICE OF A DRAFT HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT PERMIT Befesa Zinc US Inc. 941 Technology Drive Barnwell, South Carolina SCR 000 771 618 The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) has written a draft Hazardous Waste Management permit for Befesa Zinc US Inc. The draft permit has been written to comply with the South Carolina Hazardous Waste Management Regulations. The draft permit contains conditions for the following: Identification of solid waste management units (SWMUs) and corrective action for those units, if needed; Selection of corrective action for SWMUs; The draft permit is open for public comment from August 5, 2025 to September 22, 2025. SCDES encourages all interested persons to participate in this permitting process. Written comments or requests for a formal public hearing should be submitted no later than September 22, 2025, and should be addressed to Kent Krieg at the above SCDES address or by e-mail at: Kent.Krieg@des.sc.gov. All written comments received by September 22, 2025 will be considered before a final permit decision is made. If a public hearing is requested and scheduled, notice will be given at least thirty days in advance.
