PIERCE COUNTY HUMAN SERVICES Notice of 30-Day Public Comment Period, Public Hearing and Availability of Substantial Amendment to the 2025 One Year Action Plan Notice Pierce County Human Services has made available a Substantial Amendment to the Human Services 2025 One Year Action Plan for public review and comment for 30-days from August 29 through October 1, 2025. Substantial Amendment #1 to the 2025 One Year Action Plan This substantial amendment is to notify the public of a change in the purpose, scope, and beneficiaries to a project funded in 2018: the Pierce County Crisis Triage and Stabilization Center. The original project was a 16-bed, short-term crisis respite alternative facility serving adults (18+) experiencing a mental health crisis. It operated 24/7/365 and provided a supportive recovery environment grounded in values of hope, choice, empowerment, and wellness. This substantial amendment proposes to repurpose the facility into a temporary Medical Respite program for individuals experiencing homelessness in Pierce County. The new program will offer short-term medical care for those who are too ill or vulnerable to recover from an illness or injury in unsheltered conditions but do not need hospital-level care. Services will include comprehensive medical respite services, case management, housing services, and other wraparound services. "Temporary use" is defined as an initial three-to-five-year term with potential for extension based on community need. Pierce County anticipates releasing a Request for Proposals (RFP) around October 1, 2025, to select a provider to operate and manage the Medical Respite program. Notice is hereby given A 30-day public comment period for review of this substantial amendment began on August 29 and will close on October 1, 2025, by 4:30 pm. Human Services will present the substantial amendment during the Citizens' Advisory Board (CAB) meeting on October 1 and the CAB will hold a public hearing on the substantial amendment. To view the substantial amendment in its entirety, go to: www.piercecountywa.org/2781/Program-Plans.
