NOTICE OF HEARING
The FAYETTE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION will hold a special-called meeting on Friday, September 5, at 5:30 p.m. in conference room 150 at the John D. Price Administration Building, 450 Park Place for the purpose of hearing public comments, suggestions, and complaints regarding the school district budget, receiving requested information about estimated district revenue and expenses, and reviewing recommendations developed by the district administration. Discussion may include mention of a previous proposal requesting the levy of an occupational license tax (OLT) of three-quarters of one percent (0.75%) on individuals residing and working or persons conducting business within Fayette County and a current proposed general tax levy of 79.8 cents on real property and 83.0 cents on personal property. The board will vote on the proposed property tax rates at the board meeting on September 8, 2025.
The general tax rate levied in fiscal year 2025 was 81.0 cents on real property and 83.3 cents on personal property and produced revenue of $326,623,831.39. The proposed general tax rate of 79.8 cents on real property and 83.0 cents on personal property is expected to produce $340,212,439.47. Of this amount, $27,426,304.68 is from new and personal property. The compensating tax for fiscal year 2026 is 76.8 cents on real property and 81.8 cents on personal property and is expected to produce $328,000,919.16. The current OLT rate is one-half of one percent (0.5%) and produced revenue in the most recent full audited fiscal year (2024) of $52,839,730.
