Public Notice The City of Madison, Illinois, has entered into an agreement to sell substantially all the assets of the City's wastewater collection system to Illinois American Water for $3 Million. Illinois American Water will hold an open house on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Madison Fire Station, 1800 3rd St., Madison, IL 62060, to provide more information about the sale. The current monthly charges for wastewater treatment customers using 3,500 gallons of water per month is approximately $67. After sale to Illinois American Water, when Illinois American Water will be providing both collection and treatment services, the average wastewater charge for collection and treatment for customers using 3,500 gallons of water per month will be approximately $76. After the acquisition, customers can manage their accounts and pay their bill online via Illinois American Water's self-service website. Bills can be paid to Illinois American Water by mail, automatic payment, phone or at an authorized payment location. Customers having trouble paying their bill by the due date can work with customer service representatives on a payment arrangement. Illinois American Water also offers a customer assistance program, the H2O Help to Others Program, which is administered by the Salvation Army and supported by company and customer contributions. Illinois American Water has partnered with Dollar Energy on an income-based, discount customer assistance program. As part of the program, approved water and/or wastewater customers can receive a monthly discount on their water and/or wastewater bill. An applicant for the Income-based Discount Program must be a residential customer of Illinois American Water to qualify. Once enrolled, customers will be required to recertify their number of household members and income information on an annual basis to remain enrolled in the program.
