UNDER THE COASTAL ZONE MANAGEMENT ACT
Native Coastal Plants, LLC has filed notice of a proposed project which requires review by the MS Department of Marine Resources to ensure compliance with the state's approved Coastal Program under the Coastal Zone Management Act. The applicant is requesting to collect plant materials (seed stock and bare root plugs) from 32 parcels under ownership of Cure Land Company. Plant material will only be collected from areas above mean high tide. Target plant species to be harvested include but not limited to: Marsh Hay Cordgrass (Spartina patens), Saltmarsh Cordgrass (Spartina alterniflora), Saltgrass (Distichlis spicata), Black Needlerush (Juncus roemarianus), Groundseltree (Baccharis halimifolia), Marsh Elder (Iva frutescens), Wax Myrtle (Morella cerifera), Yaupon (Ilex vomitoria) and Morning Glory (Ipomoea spp.). The collected materials will serve as source material for future coastal restoration projects across the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Hancock County, MS.
