NOTICE TO CITIZENS OF RICHLAND COUNTY: Pursuant to the South Carolina Eminent Domain Procedure Act, Section 28-2-70(c), Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, as amended, notice is hereby given that entry by personnel of the City of Columbia, South Carolina Department of Transportation, and/or their legal representatives will be made in the area of the road(s) described below for such purposes as topographic surveys, subsurface exploration, environmental related studies and for the gathering of any other data necessary for the planning, development of location alternatives, design, property acquisition, and construction of the following highway improvement project. Main Street / Vista District Connector: The project consists of roadway and pedestrian safety and enhancement improvements along the Assembly Street (SC-48) corridor between the intersections of Lady Street (local) and Pendelton Street (S-174) in City of Columbia, South Carolina. The study corridor also includes the intersection of Assembly Street (SC-48) and Senate Street (local) and the intersection of Assembly Street (SC-48) and Gervais Street (US 1) along with areas adjacent to and/or in between these existing roadways. The project is currently in its conceptual phase and may include pedestrian and vehicular safety elements, installation of traffic signal poles and mast arms, and accessibility improvements. Other items may also include reconfiguration of the existing median, aesthetic landscaping, and hardscaping items such as stamped crosswalks and wayfinding signage. The exact location of these improvements has not been determined but will be shared with the public at different phases throughout the project development process. The purpose of this Local Public Agency (LPA) project is to promote connectivity between the Vista Entertainment District and the Main Street District by improving pedestrian and vehicular safety. The corridor is located in downtown Columbia serves as a major pedestrian and vehicular artery for state and local governments, businesses, retail shops, and restaurants.
