Bio-Ecology Systems, Inc. Superfund Site Public Notice U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 6 July 2025 The EPA has completed the seventh five-year review of remedy implementation and performance at the Bio-Ecology Systems, Inc. Superfund site (Site) in Grand Prairie, Texas. From 1972 until 1978, the Site was permitted as a Class 1 industrial solid waste management facility. Solid waste management activities at the Site contaminated soil and groundwater with heavy metals and volatile organic compounds. The Site includes fenced, open space and vegetated areas. Commercial property abuts the Site to the north and west. Undeveloped, wooded land is to the east and south. Tributaries of Mountain Creek also surround the Site to the east and south. The sitewide remedy includes raising the elevation of the Site above the 100-year floodplain and stabilizing waste and disposing of it in an on-site capped landfill. It also includes constructing a fence to limit site access and groundwater monitoring. All on-site construction activities have been completed. Long-term monitoring activities continue. The five-year review concluded that the remedy for the Site is protective of human health and the environment in the short term. The on-site capped landfill prevents exposure to contaminated soil and waste and limits migration of contaminants to groundwater, surface water and adjacent property. For the remedy to be protective of human health and the environment over the long term, the EPA will issue an Explanation of Significant Differences to document institutional controls as part of the Site's remedy. The EPA completed the seventh five-year review for the Site in June 2025. The next five-year review is required by June 2030.
