Request for Information about Hancock County Bombing and Gunnery Range The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is applying the Munitions Response Site Prioritization Protocol at Hancock County Bombing and Gunnery Range (BGR) Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) Project 01. The former Hancock County BGR is located just northwest of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. The former Hancock County BGR was established in the early 1940s to train combat crews flying B-17s. It consisted of 30,622 acres and included three gunnery and bombing ranges, a rifle range, two machine gun ranges and a ground strafing range. The Hancock County BGR FUDS property is one of many former military installations throughout the United States reviewed under the Department of Defense's Munitions Response Site Prioritization Protocol. This protocol is used to assess Formerly Used Defense Sites that may have unexploded ordnance, discarded military munitions or munitions constituents, and to guide future investigations or munitions removal activities at these sites. This notification and the project documentation that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers relies upon when applying the Munitions Response Site Prioritization Protocol is provided in the information repository located at: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, 100 W. Oglethorpe Ave., Savannah, GA 31401. For more information or if you have additional information about past activities related to the Hancock County BGR FUDS property, please contact the project manager.
