Franklin County Irrigation District No. 1 proudly announces the retirement of Operations Manager John Burns, following an exceptional 33-year career in public service. Throughout his tenure, Mr. Burns has demonstrated unwavering dedication to the District and its water users, playing a pivotal role in infrastructure improvements and operational advancements.
“John’s commitment to the water users and the District has been nothing short of outstanding,” said Office Manager Genni Currie. “He has led countless infrastructure projects and continually sought ways to enhance our operations. I’ve seen him go out of his way to assist a widow who just lost her husband or patiently teach irrigation basics to new homeowners. Local utilities and government agencies have shared stories of him showing up in the middle of the night to help during emergencies, always working as part of a team. John is the real deal—the most genuine person you could ever meet.”
Mr. Burns's leadership, integrity, and community spirit will be deeply missed by District staff, local partners, contractors, and, most of all, the water users he served with such care.
The District is also pleased to announce that Brad Backus has assumed the role of Operations Manager. Mr. Backus brings a wealth of experience and expertise, ensuring a smooth transition and continued excellence in service.
Franklin County Irrigation District No. 1 extends its heartfelt thanks to John Burns for his invaluable service and wishes him a well-earned retirement—full of fishing, relaxation, and well-deserved enjoyment.
