Project Description: Whatcom County has released a draft update to its Local Management Plan for on-site sewage (septic) systems, aligning county rules with revised state regulations (WAC 246-272A) and Whatcom County Code 24.05. The draft describes how the county inspects and enforces septic system requirements, identifies areas of increased public health risk, and outlines new state requirements for nitrogen management, minimum lot size, and property-transfer evaluations. This is a DRAFT plan. The draft is available for review and electronic comment at https://www.whatcomcounty.us/4605. Comments will be accepted from November 1st 2026 through December 5th 2026.
