Prairielands Groundwater Conservation District Notice of Hearing On Proposed Desired Future Conditions May 18, 2026 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to all interested parties within Ellis, Hill, Johnson and Somervell Counties, Texas: That the Board of Directors of the Prairielands Groundwater Conservation District (“Prairielands GCD”) will hold a public hearing and accept public comment on the proposed desired future conditions (“DFCs”) for the aquifers underlying Ellis, Hill, Johnson and Somervell Counties, Texas, in accordance with Section 36.108(d-2) of the Texas Water Code. The purpose of the hearing is to provide interested members of the public the opportunity to appear and provide comments to the Prairielands GCD related to the proposed DFCs. The Prairielands GCD is one of eleven groundwater conservation districts located wholly or partially within Groundwater Management Area 8 (“GMA 8”); the other districts in GMA 8 include Central Texas Groundwater Conservation District, Clearwater Groundwater Conservation District, Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, Northern Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, North Texas Groundwater Conservation District, Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District, Red River Groundwater Conservation District, Saratoga Underground Water Conservation District, Southern Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, and Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District. At the last GMA 8 joint planning meeting, held on March 31, 2026, the district representatives voted unanimously to approve the proposed DFCs, which have been distributed to the individual districts for a 90-day comment period and public hearing. The proposed DFCs relevant to Prairielands GCD are included below: Note: The GCDs in GMA 8 also adopted an aquifer-wide DFC of an average drawdown of 152 feet for the Antlers Aquifer, but the Antlers is not present in the District. Note also that the DFCs above represent the greatest level of acceptable impact. Having less drawdown or more available drawdown remaining than what is listed remains consistent with the DFCs This hearing will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, beginning at 9:00 A.M., at the Prairielands GCD office located at 208 Kimberly Drive, Cleburne, Texas 76031. Any person who desires to appear at the hearing and present comment or other information on the proposed DFCs may do so in person, by legal representation, or both. Limits may be placed on the amount of time that each person is allowed to present verbal comments, but written comments may also be submitted. Those wishing to provide written comments on the proposed DFCs in advance may also do so by email to kjones@prairielandsgcd.org or by mail or in person at 208 Kimberly Dr., Cleburne, TX 76031. Written comments will continue to be accepted by email, mail, or in person through July 31, 2026. The hearing in this notice may be recessed from day to day or continued where appropriate. This public hearing is available to all persons regardless of disability. If you require special assistance to attend the hearing, please contact Prairielands GCD at (817) 556-2299 at least 24 hours in advance of the hearing. A copy of the proposed DFCs may be requested by email at kjones@prairielandsgcd.org. It is also available at www.prairielandsgcd.org, and may be reviewed, inspected, or obtained in person at the Prairielands GCD office located at 208 Kimberly Drive, Cleburne, Texas 76031.
